Skill builder: Applique
Directions:
- See pages 66-68 in the Block Party book
- Background: cut one 17.5" x 21.5"
- Main fabrics: 6-12 pieces assorted fabrics for polka dots
- Additional supplies based on chosen applique technique, see YouTube video link below
- Applique the circles as desired
- Add 2.5" strips of background fabric to each side
- Trim final block to 21" x 25"
Hints:
- Arrange all your circles on your backing fabric while on the ironing board so that you don't have to try to move it to iron the applique in place
- Pellon 805 Wonder Under works well for raw edge applique
- Pellon P44F or 906F fusible interfacing work well for the Fons & Porter: Sew Easy, Interfacing Applique technique.
- If you are feeling adventurous, try the Fons and Porter technique using the Pellon 807 fusible web
- If you plan to turn under the applique edges, remember that light fabrics on a dark background will have visible seams. A wide decorative stitch can be used to camouflage it.
- For the freezer paper method, remember to iron your freezer paper before cutting your circles, and use a double layer of freezer paper for added durability
