Angela Walters, Orange Peel, May 2016

Our 1st guild birthday celebration was a huge success. I am so happy that you all came and brought wonderful food. You all show so much modern quilting enthusiasm and it makes  this guild learn and grow. Thank you for sharing your modern quilt journey with us. We hope for many wonderful years to come.

ORANGE PEEL PROGRAM

Liz gave a wonderful program on  different ways that you can do an orange peel block. These blocks would be great for scrap busting. There are many techniques to make orange peels and many different layouts that you can use in making a quilt. We focused on the applique method with fusible interfacing and turning. It gives the orange peel a nice clean curve while the interfacing holds the peel in place to the background while you applique it. You can choose many different ways to applique or hand stitch this block down. This would give you a chance to get to know your machine stitches. Zig zag, satin stitch, or blanket stitch. You can always hand applique as well for a seamless look.

We talked about Angela Walter's. She is a fabric designer, book author and very well known quilter. She has many great video on quilting techniques on Youtube and Craftsy. You can find out more about her on her blog, Quilting is my Therapy .

We always look forward to seeing you at our monthly meetings. You can find the date and location above. You kind find us on Instagram and Flickr too.  Please bring your quilts and things to show off at show and tell. Bring a friend, stay and sew afterwards until 3:00 p.m. If you have any quilts to donate, you can bring them to the meeting. We will make sure that they go to the Favor House which Betty coordinates.
