This is 12 1/2" unfinished block

Orange Peel May 2016

You can find a great orange peel tutorial Sew She Can blog here. There was a couple adjustments and details that vary from the tutorial. Please read here first. We are using the 6" template for the leaf found on the blog and add a quarter inch around.  Also, we will be using a background square that is 6 1/4" . This will make it so that the points are touching when sewn together. We are using any grey background with any modern fabric as petals.

Pick Up Sticks April 2016

12.5"  finished Kona White background and 1" or varied width of strips. You can use as many strips or as little strips as you like. You can use solids or prints as sticks and cut them larger as well. This block is forgiving. It is best done with a larger background 13.5" and when finished piecing in sticks, cut it down to size. You can find a tutorial giving you the basics  here

This block uses 3 solid fabrics, arranged and sewn using the Stack, Shuffle and Slide technique.
Colors should be jewel tones. Choose a medium value fabric, then choose one that has a lighter value and one that has a darker value. Cut the fabrics to 10.5" x 12.5".
Final block should be trimmed to 8" x 10" or left untrimmed.

A tutorial for a similar block can be found here.
To make a block like Cindy demonstrated at the meeting, find instructions from the book on the last page of this pdf here, from the publisher.
Either block can be made for your block lottery submission.

Flying Geese February 2016

HST Chevron January 2016

Block by Donna Lacy
Take two 5" squares of the same kind of Tula Pink fabric and two 5" squares of white fabric. Place one white and one Tula fabric right sides together. Do this for the remaining fabric as well. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on each set. You will sew a 1/4" seam on either side of the line on both sets of fabric. When sewn, cut down the diagonal line in between the sewn lines. This gives you 4 HST's. Trim each HST to 4 1/2". Layout the triangles for the block. Sew the top two together. Then, sew the bottom set together. Now, sew top and bottom together. Finished block should be 8 1/2" block.

  1. There seems to be something wrong with the link to the X Plus tutorial. And the pdf does not list measurements. Can I get the sizes of the pieces so I can make a few of these? Thank you!
