Skill builder: Modern variation of the traditional Chinese Coin block
Directions:
- See pages 72-74 in the Block Party book
- Background: cut one fat quarter, about 18" x 22", cut into 1" - 3" wide x 18" strips
- Main fabrics: 10-15 pieces assorted fabric strips, 3" - 8" long and 1" - 3" wide
- Cut each background fabric strips about in half
- Choose main fabric strips that are about equal width between each background strip pair, and sew them together.
- Trim these strips evenly lengthwise
- Sew together all the strips into a block
- Trim the block to about 12.5" x 15.5"
- Add 2.5" strips of background fabric to each side
- Trim final block to 16" x 19"
*Note*
Don't cut your background strips too narrow or your block may loose a lot of length because of all the seams! My block ended up only being 13" long and I had to add 2 more strips.
