Rossie Hutchinson, Paint Chip Improv Technique; March 2016

Cindy showed us the ins and outs of the Paint Chip quilt technique in the book Stack, Shuffle, and Slide. The paint chip blocks gives you the freedom of color. Improv is a huge part of modern quilting, and this is a nice place to start with this block because it is improv within guidelines. It is a great way to play with solid colors. Cindy also brought paint chips from Home Depot to demonstrate color combos which was a fantastic tip.

This year we have really integrated all areas of modern quilting into every meeting. Becky (President) has done a fantastic job of making our programs flow with designer highlights, incorporating swaps, and our block lottery. Our Kona solids fat eighth swap will be excellent to use in making these blocks. Our block lottery's have become a great place to start your journey with modern quilting, one block at a time.
You can find this book here.

1st Birthday Party

We are having a birthday party at our May 28th. meeting. Pensacola MQG is almost a year old. We have come so far in this year, and we couldn't do it without all of our wonderful members. It is great getting together with other quilters and talk about quilting. It is fun learning together and sharing this one thing that is such a huge part of our lives. I never imagined such a wonderful group of women to move forward and grow in quilting together! We will be celebrating with a potluck and a gift exchange. We would like members to make a small handmade item for the gift exchange or you can  bring 1 yard of modern designer fabric to exchange instead.
Please bring the gift wrapped or in a gift bag.
  Happy PMQG birthday!

Flying Geese, Cathedral Windows & Jacquie Gering; February 2016

The Easy, Modern Cathedral Window Method

Welcome to the Pensacola MQG blog. This month, we had a wonderful presentation given by Janie. She showed us the traditional, time consuming way to make the cathedral window block, followed by the modern, quick way. We've put together a board on Pinterest where you can find many different methods and various examples. See the link below.

Janie's beautiful cathedral window pin-on note board uses fabric from Bonnie and Camille.

Block Lottery Flying Geese

This months block lottery is a Flying Geese block, measuring 12.5" unfinished. Please use Kona white for the geese and "sea glass" inspired colors that read as solid fabric. These colors include turquoise, aqua, sky blue, cobalt blue, emerald green, etc.
Find more inspiration on flying geese on our Pinterest page, the link is below.

Tutorial can be found on That's Sew Creative.

Fabric Swap

Suzie is heading up the fabric swaps. We are doing up to 2 yards of Kona solid fat eighths.
Put 8 fat eighths in a bag and label the color with a sticky note and your name. They don't have to all be the same color. The cutting diagram is below. If you want to come early, Yvonne can help with the cutting. Please update the Facebook swap photo album with the fabrics you are swapping. This will help us not get any duplicates.  There is a link to the facebook group in the right sidebar.
*Disclaimer- You may not get back a piece of the color fabric that you bring.*
