March 2017
Pensacola Modern Quilt Guild
Member Meeting March 25, 2017 10:06 am
President, Juliette Dolence, greeted all present. She will try to keep the meetings short and use the
extra time toward the Stay, Sit and Sew to be held after each meeting. During this sew time, the block
of the month will be demonstrated and participants can practice making one using our donated fabric.
A sign-up sheet is being circulated this morning. The areas of greatest interest, as expressed by the
members, have been listed along with the dates available for Sew Bee It days. Please choose an area
you would enjoy demonstrating and then choose a Monday when you would be available to
demonstrate the skill you have chosen. Sew Bee It days will begin at 10 am and be held in A&E's
classroom in the building behind A&E to the left.
Rosanne Williams, Membership, introduced the 10 guests who were present today. There were 20
members at the meeting. One new member joined today.
The Guild would like to raffle this year's QuiltCon quilt, “Scales”. Details of how and when the raffle
would take place were discussed. Juliette has found a source to print raffle tickets. A&E would be
willing to display the quilt in the store. Donna and Juliette will explore the rules governing raffles held
by non-profit organizations. More details to follow.
Participation in the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival, held each year in Pensacola, was discussed. The
festival will be held November 3-5, 2017. The Guild can participate either in a booth ($300 fee) or in
the Heritage Arts area (free). The booth/area must be manned the entire festival (23 hours). No sales
are permitted in the Heritage Arts area. This is the same weekend as the Houston Quilt Show.
Betty Williams suggested the Guild could increase our exposure by participating in the Southwest
Branch Library's quilt display. She will gather more information.
Juliette had handouts on Sewing Ergonomics.
Carole Johnstone, Librarian, asked that all outstanding books be returned.
